STREET FOOD

When it comes to food, Marrakech is always the place to be ! Wandering through the alleys, getting thrilled by the ambient energy is always a striking experience. Sometimes it is also the nose that guides, when arrive up to the nostrils the scents of spices, the smell of warm bread, the fumes of simmering tagines.

I have already written an article about the Mechoui Alley, where you can savor, in a very relaxed way, the lamb which was cooked in the oven underground or the tangias in their clay pot.

Street Food, is developing greatly today and not only for young customers. In Morocco, where we still often eat around the dish with our fingers and bread, the sandwich culture has almost become traditional !

FOOD STREET

Derb Dabachi street, next to the Jemaa El Fna square, has always been very busy and commercial, and sometimes pedestrian traffic jams occur ! It is now renamed Food Street because many stalls of various sandwiches have opened.

Everyone has his own way of attracting the crowd. The cooks make the show. A precise gesture, a catchy smile and look, a humorous little word, the bright colors of the preparations, the variety of the recipes must seduce the customer.

Today I stopped at Hicham’s place and enjoyed a well-filled sandwich, actually a very greedy one.

A few agencies now offer “Street food tours” and tourists, in the company of a guide, have fun walking through the streets of the medina, going to various places to enjoy a sandwich here, a donut or a pastry there, msemen crêpes or briouates… There is a demand and the Moroccan merchants perfectly know how to respond !
